PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Juniata College men's volleyball team wrapped up its season-opening three-match trip to Arizona with a 3-2 win over Division II Grand Canyon University, Sunday evening at Antelope Gymnasium.

Set scores for Juniata were 19-25, 25-19, 25-27, 25-16, and 15-12.

Freshman opposite Alex McColgin (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) led the Eagles with 19 kills on his 39 swings, and finished the match with a .256 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Chris Vrooman (Baden, Pa./Ambridge Area) logged 13 kills while hitting .156 for the match.

Junior middle Ben Wolff (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) put away 11 kills on 18 swings with no errors - a .611 hitting percentage - and recorded six blocks. Junior middle John Prout (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) also finished the match with five blocks.

Juniata (3-0) hit .250 for the match, with John Almquist (York, Pa./Central York) finishing with 42 assists. Junior Mike Kraft (York, Pa./Eastern York) sprawled for 15 digs against the Antelopes, while McColgin had nine digs and Vrooman and Almquist tallied seven each.

Grand Canyon (1-3) was held to .161 hitting on the night, committing 30 attack errors against 53 kills on 143 swings. Ben Hunt recorded 14 kills for the Antelopes, while Ben Ponnet and Ed Ricker had 11 apiece.

Juniata returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 13, when it travels to New York City to face New York University in an EIVA Hay Division match. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
