GRANTHAM, Pa. -- 16th-ranked Juniata College field hockey opened its 2010 season squaring off against second-ranked Messiah College, and the Eagles dropped a 5-0 decision to the Falcons on Wednesday evening at Messiah's Anderson Field.

Messiah (1-0) logged three goals in the opening half, with Amber Good notching the game-winner off an assist from Julie Barton. Barton scored the Falcons' third goal of the first half, following a marker by Brooke Sands.

Kourtney Ehly and Kilee Rosenberry added goals in the second stanza.

Senior Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) played well into the second half in the Juniata cage, allowing all five Messiah goals while recording 10 saves. Sophomore Janelle Howard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) played the last 13 minutes of the game in goal, recording three saves.

Messiah outshot Juniata 21-7, with Shauna Deschenes (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita), Caroline Phillips (Wilmington, Del./Concord) and Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) each recording a pair of shots.

The Falcons also recorded 11 penalty corners to Juniata's five.

Juniata (0-1) will travel to Hoboken, N.J., this weekend to face Stevens Institute of Technology and The College of New Jersey at the Stevens Field Hockey Tournament.
