HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- One repeat selection and three first-time honorees comprised Juniata College's four honorees on the Landmark Conference 2010 Spring All-Academic Team, which was unveiled Thursday evening.

Men's track and field senior Matt Bailey (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) makes his second appearance on an All-Academic Team, have previously getting the nod on the Fall 2007 squad.

First time honorees are softball junior Caley McCool (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley), men's track and field sophomore Nicholas Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge), and women's tennis junior Hilary Walsh (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area).

Arguably the finest distance runner in Juniata history, Bailey graduated magna cum laude from Juniata this past May with a degree in biochemistry with secondary emphasis in philosophy. He won the 10,000m run at this year's Landmark Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and ran the anchor leg of Juniata's first place squad in the Distance Medley Relay. He began his senior year by becoming the first Juniata male to run in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, and earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors after finishing 27th at the NCAA Mideast Regional. Bailey currently holds the Juniata outdoor records in the 10,000m, the 5,000m, and the 3,000m, as well as the indoor record in the 5,000m. He is also part of the four-some that currently holds the Juniata record in the DMR. Away from track and cross country, he was a member of the Juniata College Orchestra, and was a seven-time Dean's List student and Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection.

McCool was named an ESPN The Magazine First team Academic All-District selection, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), and advanced to be a candidate for Academic All-America honors. On the diamond, she batted .404 with eight doubles and 22 runs batted in, and posted a .968 fielding percentage at second base. A two-time All-Landmark Conference honoree, she was twice a member of the Landmark Academic Honor Roll and is a six-time Dean's List student. She finished second in Juniata's 2009 Bailey Oratorical Contest, a campus-wide public speaking competition, and was a finalist again in 2010. A member of Lambda Pi Eta, the communications honor society, the communications and public relations student will spend the Fall 2010 semester in Washington, D.C., after being accepted into the highly competitive Washington Center internship program.

Bauer won the long jump at the 2010 Landmark Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and finished sixth in the triple jump. A sophomore physics major with secondary emphasis in chemistry, the two-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection was active in Juniata's Society of Physics Students, helping with physics demonstrations for local students. He is an EMT and an active member of both Juniata's EMS group as well as at home in New Jersey. Bauer also competes with Juniata's 'ultimate frisbee' squad during the fall.

Walsh finished her junior season with a 6-12 singles record, but had a 3-4 mark against Landmark opponents. She has an 8-12 mark in singles over the last two seasons, after not playing collegiate tennis as a freshman. A Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection earlier this spring, Walsh will be studying abroad in China this coming fall. She is also active in Juniata's Student Alumni Association, a student volunteer group that works with alumni. Walsh is the recipient of a Calvert Ellis Scholarship at Juniata College.

Two male and two female student-athletes from each of the eight Landmark Conference institutions are selected for the All-Academic Team, which honors student-athletes who have excelled athletically and academically. Nominees for the Spring All-Academic Team could compete in any of the Landmark's spring sports, and must have at least sophomore academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.

The 2010 Landmark Conference Spring All-Academic Team contains 12 seniors, 10 juniors, and 10 sophomores.
