HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Four Juniata College student-athletes were among those named to the Landmark Conference 2009 Winter All-Academic Team, which was announced Thursday.

Juniata's Winter 2009 All-Academic Team selections are men's basketball junior Jeff Berkey (Stoystown, Pa./Shanksville-Stonycreek), women's basketball senior Emily Hauser (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), women's indoor track and field senior Meghan Jones (Meadville, Pa./Meadville), and men's indoor track and field junior Sam Williams (Roaring Spring, Pa./Central).

Berkey led the Juniata men's basketball team in scoring in his junior season, en route to earning second-team All-Conference recognition. He was also a team captain for the Eagles. Off the court he is studying business management and has been named to the Dean's List each semester. He has studied abroad in Senegal and received the Juniata Calvert Ellis Presidential Scholarship.

Hauser was a leader on and off the court for the Juniata women's basketball team this season, helping the Eagles win the ECAC Division III South Region Championship. She is studying international politics and is the secretary for the Juniata Student Government. She also participated in an academic seminar program at the 2008 Republican National Convention. Hauser is the student representative to the Juniata Board of Trustees Audit Committee, and student representative to the college's budget committee.

Jones competes in cross country and track and field for Juniata, and earned second-team All-Conference honors in cross country in 2007. This season she was third in the 5,000 at the Landmark Indoor Championships. An international business student, she has earned Dean's List recognition three semesters and is a member of the Tau Pi Phi accounting, business and economics honor society.

Williams has earned All-Conference honors in cross country and track & field at Juniata, including a second-team spot at the 2009 Landmark Indoor Championships. A mathematics POE at Juniata, he has been named to the Dean's List every semester he has attended Juniata. Williams is Juniata's first two-time All-Academic Team honoree after claiming a spot on the 2008 Fall team.

Two male and two female student-athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions are selected for the team, which honors athletes who have excelled academically and athletically. Nominees may come from any of the Landmark winter sports, and must have sophomore standing or higher with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better. The Landmark Conference will select an All-Academic Team for each of the three athletics seasons during the year.
