HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The author of "The World of King Arthur," Christopher Snyder, will talk to people interested in separating the myths and realities of Camelot in the Juniata College lecture "Finding the Real King Arthur" at 7:30 p.m., March 25, in Alumni Hall in the Brumbaugh Science Center on the Juniata campus.

The lecture, which is part of the Delbert McQuaide Lectureship in history and is sponsored by the history department, is free and open to the public.

Snyder is associate professor of history at Marymount College in Arlington, Va. and has published extensively on early British history and on King Arthur. He wrote "The World of King Arthur" in 2000 and also wrote "In th'olde dayes of the Kyng Arthur" and "An Age of Tyrants: Britain and the Britons A.D. 400-600." Snyder's "The World of King Arthur" was a featured selection by the Book of the Month Club and "An Age of Tyrants" was featured book of the month for the History Book Club.

He has lectured on "The World of King Arthur" and "Saint Patrick's Britain" at the Smithsonian Institution and has been interviewed about medieval history in U.S. News and World Report.

Snyder has been on the faculty at Marymount since 1996, when he was hired as an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate professor of European history in 2000. Prior to that he worked as a visiting assistant professor of history at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., for the 1995-1996 academic year.

He earned a bachelor's degree in medieval and Renaissance studies from West Virginia University in 1988. He earned a master's degree in 1992 and a doctorate in 1994, both in medieval history from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.

He is a member of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, the Southeastern Medieval Association and the Historical Society.

The Delbert McQuaide Lectureship in History Series was established by Delbert McQuaide, a 1958 Juniata College graduate. He was a senior partner at McQuaide Blasko Law Offices in State College and served as general counsel for Penn State University and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He was president of the Centre County Bar Association, and a member of the Pennsylvania, and American Bar Associations and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. Mr. McQuaide was a member of the Board of Trustees from 1994 and served as chairman from 1996 until his death in 1997.
