HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Senior guard Kelli Young (United/Vintondale), a member of the Juniata College women's basketball team, capped the College Hill basketball 2000-01 season and her career, by earning a spot on the Commonwealth Conference Second Team. The selection marks the first time in her tenure that she has earned post-season accolades. Teammate Brandy Preslovich (Bald Eagle Area/Moshannon), a senior forward, earned first team honors for her performance on the hardwood. It marks the first time that Juniata has had two players named to the conference all-star team in the same season since the 1979-80 campaign, when Nancy Zinkham and Julie George made the squad as a forward and center, respectively.

Young is joined on the Commonwealth second team list along with junior guard Allison Ream (Susquehanna), freshman guard Nicole Stanley (Widener), freshman forward/center Jennifer Northcott (Lebanon Valley) and senior guard Stephanie Scinto (Elizabethtown).

Young finished her senior campaign ranked first on the team in steals (85) and assists (131). In addition, she was second on the squad in free throw percentage at 79.5 percent (62 of 78) and also shot 33 percent (49 of 147) from the floor this winter.

Her 131 assists ranks fourth on the College Hill single-season chart, she also owns third place on the same list with her total of 143 helpers in 1999-2000, and her 85 steals is good for fifth best during a single season.

On the Commonwealth individual statistical charts, Young finished the season ranked first in assists per game (5.24), steals (3.40) and assist to turnover ratio dishing out 1.54 assists for every turnover committed. She also ranked fourth in the conference in free throw percentage.

For the year, Young scored in double figures in seven of the 25 games she played, including a stretch of three straight at one point. She tied or set a career high in all major categories during her senior campaign on College Hill. She dropped in 17 points in a victory over Lycoming on November 28. She dished out 13 assists during her final home game against visiting Moravian on February 16. Overall, she had two contests where she posted double digit assists, and she had 20 abets in her final two games. Young also pulled down 93 rebounds and blocked six shots from her point-guard position.

Young finishes her career ranked in the top-10 in the following Juniata women's basketball career charts: second in assists (481), third in steals (267) and sixth in three-pointers made (55).

Juniata completed the year with a 12-14 overall record and an 8-6 mark in Commonwealth play. Young and Preslovich also helped lead the Eagles to their third straight appearance in the conference playoffs, before falling to Lebanon Valley in the Commonwealth semifinal round.
