HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Following its victories over second-ranked and defending national champion Washington University (Mo.) and 13th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the Juniata College women's volleyball team retained its number one ranking in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

The Eagles (7-0) received all 24 first-place votes in the poll, finishing with 600 points. Washington-St. Louis dropped to fourth, while Emory University and University of La Verne improved to second and third respectively. Emory garnered 553 points in the poll, while La Verne had 542 and Washington recorded 532 points.

In the previous week's poll, Juniata was ranked first in the nation with 590 points and 14 first-place votes, but had a five-point lead over second-ranked Wash.U. with 585 points.

Trinity (Texas), Carthage, Wittenberg, St. Thomas (Minn.), Puget Sound, and Wisconsin-Oshkosh round out the top ten. Juniata is slated to play Emory twice and La Verne once over the rest of the 2008 regular season.

Juniata will face Goucher College, Catholic University, and Susquehanna University in the first of two Landmark Conference round-robin weekends, which will take place this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20-21, at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa.
