ERIE, Pa. -- Juniata College shot 40.8% from the field while holding John Carroll University to just 28.0% shooting on its way to a 66-52 win over the Blue Streaks, in first day action at the Penn State-Behrend tournament in Erie, Pa. Claudia McDowell (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) went 7-of-12 from the field to finish with a game-high 17 points, while Kelly Ashcraft (Bellefonte, Pa./State College) chipped in with 12 points. Freshman Jen Hnatuck (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) pulled down 12 board for the Eagles. Juniata (1-0) put some space between itself and John Caroll late in the first half, as McDowell nailed a pair of jumpers to give the Eagles a 26-19 lead at the half. Two more jumpers by Hnatuck on Juniata\'s first two possessions of the second half stretched the lead into double-digits, 30-19. The margin see-sawed between 11 and 13 points until the 14:17 mark, when a bucket by Hnatuck sparked a 9-0 Eagle run that effectively put the game beyond John Carroll\'s reach. The host squad from Penn State-Behrend dropped a 70-67 double-overtime decision to Bethany College, setting up Juniata and Bethany to face in Saturday\'s tournament championship at 3:00 p.m. PSU-Behrend and John Caroll will tip-off in the consolation game at 1:00 p.m. -30-
