HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College men\'s basketball team opened its 2007-08 season with an 80-69 win over Lancaster Bible College, in Friday night\'s opening round action of the 2007 Mutual Benefit Group \"Doc\" Greene Invitational in Huntingdon. Brian Cannon (Fallston, Md./Fallston) led the Eagles with 28 points and 14 boards, and was one of four Eagles to finish in double figures. Brent Ferko (Saver, Pa./Freeport) had 14 points with three blocks, while David Thompson (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) had 12 points and Kyle Opitz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) had 11. Lancaster Bible had five players score in double-figures, led by Eric Nulf with 15 points including a 3-for-5 mark from three-point range. The Chargers\' were pressured into making 25 turnovers, and were outrebounded 36-31. Juniata (1-0) took command of the game with an 11-3 run to end the first half, fueled by three buckets by Cannon and a trey by Opitz, sending the Eagles into the locker room at the break with a 41-28 lead. Lancaster Bible (0-1) cut the margin to single digits on several occasions, but Juniata responded each time and the Chargers never got to within three possesssions of catching the Eagles. Washington & Jefferson College posted a 70-56 win over Penn State-DuBois in Friday night\'s other opening round game, setting up a championship match at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday between the Presidents and the Eagles. PSU-DuBois and Lancaster Bible will square off in the consolation game at 2:00 p.m. -30-
