HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The top-ranked Juniata College women's volleyball squad managed to accomplish two things in Saturday's first day of competition in a Landmark Conference volleyball weekend, being held at Juniata's Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center in Huntingdon. First, they came away with two wins. Second, they managed to get some playing time for reserves who will be vital as the season progresses. Juniata opened the day with a win over Susquehanna University, 30-12, 30-13, and 30-9, and followed up with a victory over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 30-5, 30-10, and 30-8. Junior Cassie Dickmann (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) led the Juniata attack with 10 kills and seven blocks over the two matches, while freshman Sam Bristol (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch) recorded nine kills. Michelle Morchesky (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and Molly Sollenberger (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each had seven service aces for the day; Morchesky also chipped in with eight kills. Steph Strauss (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) finished the day with 42 assists, and Megan Sollenberger (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) recorded 21 digs. The day's offensive onslaught gave Juniata a .391 team attack percentage for the day, compared to -.165 for their two opponents. The first of two Landmark Conference volleyball weekends continues on Sunday with a total of six matches, including Juniata's two contests against Moravian College and Goucher College. The seven schools will reconvene for a second Landmark College volleyball weekend on October 6-7 at Goucher College in Baltimore, Md. -30-
