NEWARK, N.J. -- The Juniata College women\'s soccer team won its fifth-straight game on Sunday, downing Rutgers-Newark, 2-0. For the second-straight game, Juniata got on the board early. Sarah Ruggiero (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) scored what proved to be the game-winner in the fifth minute, off an assist by Amanda Broadwell (Newfoundland, N.J./Morris Knolls). After defending the slim lead for most of the game, Caitlin Bigelow (La Mesa, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) added some insurance in the 79th minute with her breakaway through the middle and shot past Rutgers-Newark keeper Katie Hastings. Colleen Cribbs (Fort Washington, Md./Bishop McNamara) was credited with the assist on Biglow\'s goal. Lisa Russo (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland) stopped nine shots in goal to preserve the shutout. \"Russo had a heck of a game today,\" said Juniata head coach Scott McKenzie. \"She stopped at least three one-on-one scoring attempts -- she certainly earned the shutout today.\" Juniata outshot Rutgers-Newark 16-15, and held an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. Juniata will play three games this week, starting with a home game on Tuesday, Sept. 18, againt Pitt-Bradford. -30-
