GLASSBORO, N.J. - It may be only mid-September, but the Juniata College field hockey has already made a powerful statement in its quest for a second-straight trip to the NCAA tournament. The Eagles knocked off 10th-ranked Rowan University, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Glassboro, N.J. Making the win even more impressive is the fact the Profs were coming off a 2-1 win over number one-ranked Messiah College, earlier this week in Glassboro. Freshman Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) scored the game\'s only goal with 16:50 remaining in the game, with a shot from the right side that beat Rowan goalie Amanda Cucinotti to the opposite corner. Senior Leslie Stern (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) was credited with an assist. Junior Abby Funk (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) had a sparkling performance in the Eagle goal, making nine saves in a game in which Rowan outshot Juniata 18-6. The entire Juniata defensive unit prevented Rowan from scoring on any of their 13 penalty corners; Juniata was not awarded a single penalty corner during the entire game. The Eagles continue their Garden State road swing Sunday afternoon when they face Richard Stockton College in a neutral site game hosted at Rowan.
