HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata College baseball used a five-run fifth inning and a solid pitching performance from Andrew Snyder (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney) to earn a 6-2 victory over visiting Susquehanna University in Commonwealth Conference action Monday afternoon in Huntingdon. The game was the makeup game of the second part of a doubleheader between the two teams that began on April 1. Snyder went all seven innings for Juniata (13-8-1, 6-2-1 Commonwealth), scattering four hits and allowing just two unearned runs as he improved to 3-1 on the year. The junior fanned five on the afternoon. Tied at one entering the bottom of the fifth Juniata broke the game open with a five-run inning. A walk, a bunt single and two stolen bases put runners at second and third with one out and Jordan Reitz (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) delivered an RBI double off the rightfield wall to bring in the first two runs. After a two-out walk, Dane Ott (South Williamsport/South Williamsport) delivered a three-run home run over the leftfield wall to put Juniata on top 6-1. It was his first collegiate home run. Susquehanna (6-14-1, 1-10-1 Commonwealth) scored one run in the top of the seventh on a fielders choice groundout, but Snyder recorded the final out to earn the win. Reitz and Ott were both 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored in the contest for Juniata. Reitz gave the Eagled a 1-0 lead when he singled home Andrew Kriss (John Carroll/Forest Hill, Md.) in the bottom of the third. The Eagles were in position for more runs in the inning but a failed suicide squeeze got a runner tagged out at the plate as Susquehanna starter Josh Weber worked out of the jam. The Crusaders got a run back for Weber in the top of the fourth. Tyler Reichard led off the frame with a double and then a sacrifice and a passed ball brought him around to score. Ruane led the Crusaders with two hits and the team\'s only RBI of the game. Reichard and Kurt Yanelli were each 1-for-3 with a run scored. Weber was tagged with the loss as he went five innings, allowing five runs on six hits. He struck out three in the contest. Shawn McDonald (Bishop Canevin/Pittsburgh) had a hit and scored a run for the Eagles, while Kriss scored a pair of runs on the day. Juniata returns to action on Tuesday with another rescheduled game as the Eagles host Commonwealth foe Messiah for a doubleheader. ###
