HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College Jazz Ensemble will perform with the Dixieland jazz band The Tarnished Six at a concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 19 in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts on the Juniata campus.
Admission is $5. Juniata students with ID and children under 17 are admitted free.
The Juniata Jazz Ensemble is directed by James Latten, assistant professor of music at Juniata.
The Juniata group will perform a series of jazz compositions, including "Point Mugu," by Lennie Niehaus, a jazz and film composer who has worked extensively with Clint Eastwood; ""T-Rex;" "Birdland," written by pianist Joe Zawinul for the band Weather Report; and "Zoot Suit Riot," a swing tune originally performed by the Cherry Poppin' Daddies.
The Tarnished Six, based in State College, will perform a variety of Dixieland tunes and traditional jazz compositions. The band members are: John Kovalchik, tuba; Roger Munnell, trombone; James Ressler, trumpet; Jim Chapman, saxophone; Mike Evock, banjo; and Phil Carles, percussion. Juniata students and employees in the jazz ensemble are: Alto Sax: Jessica Clemens, a sophomore from Chagrin Falls, Ohio; Tara Fitzsimmons, a chemistry mobile educator at Juniata; Andy Fornadel, a junior from Columbia, Md.; Abby Kress, a freshman from Lancaster, Pa.; and Christopher Shannon, a sophomore from State College. Tenor Sax: Logan Barkman, a sophomore from Roaring Spring, Pa. Baritone Sax: Joshua Fishel, a sophomore from Spring Grove, Pa. Trumpet: Marty Balaban, a senior from Massena, N.Y.; Tucker Dietrich, a senior from Spring Grove, Pa.; Tyler Kochel, a sophomore from Lancaster, Pa.; Aaron Shotts, a junior from Everett, Pa.; and Michael Madden, a junior from McVeytown, Pa. Trombone: Stephen Biesecker, a sophomore from New Cumberland, Pa.; and Devina Horvath, a senior from Hooversville, Pa. Guitar: Alec Brown a sophomore from Huntingdon, Pa.; and Tyler Hazui, a junior from Winchester, Va. Piano: Amy Wade, a junior from Schuylkill Haven, Pa. Drums: Jordan Campbell, a freshman from Tyrone, Pa.; and Dan Popernack, a junior from Hummelstown, Pa.
