HUTINGDON, Pa ? 90 minutes was not enough time for the Juniata College women?s soccer team to earn their fourth consecutive victory, but 92 minutes was plenty as freshman Amanda Broadwell (Morris Knolls/Newfoundland, N.J.) scored two minutes into overtime to give the Eagles the 1-0 win over visiting Lycoming College. With the win the Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Warriors fall to 2-1 on the year. Juniata controlled most of regulation but were unable to find the back of the net through the first 90 minutes. The Eagles maintained that aggressiveness into overtime when Alicia Walsh (Latrobe/Latrobe) passed threw the box to a streaking Sarah Ruggiero (Bangor/Bangor) whose shot was saved by Lycoming keeper Brie Pepe. Off the rebound Broadwell hit the top right corner and gave the Eagles a hard earned 1-0 win. Ruggiero was credited with the assist on the goal. In the first half the blue and gold controlled the tempo and pace of the action, but were unable to register any goals. They fired off nine shots in the first half that forced Pepe to make three big saves. Lycoming may still have had the best scoring chance of the half when Rebekah Shipe got behind the defense and moved in on Juniata goalie Lisa Russo (Lakeland/Haskell, N.J.) at the 22nd minute, but Shipe was unable to get a shot off as Russo came out of goal to challenge the attacker and cover up the ball before a shot was attempted. The second half proved to be much of the same as the Eagles were on the offensive for the majority, but unable to find a way to beat Pepe in goal. There best chance of the half came at the 50th minute when freshman Sarah Stebbins (Easton/Easton) from distance on the right side but the shot clanged off the left post. Juniata finished the match with 21 shots to Lycoming?s one, and had nine corner kicks while the Warriors registered none. Pepe finished with six saves in the match, while Russo earned the shutout without making a save on a shot. The Eagles are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on Carnegie Mellon University. ###
