Juniata 3, Gordon 2
Bridgewater 13, Juniata 0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. ? The Juniata College softball team wrapped up a week?s worth of games by splitting the final two contests at the Snowbird Softball Tournament as the Eagles downed Gordon 3-2 in the opener but then dropped a 13-0 decision to Bridgewater Thursday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

After starting slowly on its trips to Virginia and South Carolina, the Eagles won three of their final four contests. Juniata closes the trip with an overall record of 3-9.

Against Gordon early offense was all Juniata needed as senior pitcher Lizzie Bartosik (Penn/Granger, Ind.) turned in a complete-game victory.

The Eagles jumped in front early with a pair of runs in the first. Leann Leymeister (Blue Mountain/Orwigsburg) and Kaylee Kachik (Maplewood/Cambridge Springs) each had RBI base hits as Juniata took a 2-0 lead.

The Blue and Gold added to the lead with a run in the second as an RBI groundout from Julie Hatfield (Southern Cayuga/Scipio Center, N.Y.) delivered Liz Schmitt (H. Frank Carey/Franklin Square. N.Y.) who opened the inning with a double.

Gordon would cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the third inning as they produced back-to-back doubles and then an RBI single.

From there, Bartosik was in complete control as she allowed just one hit the rest of the game, and ended the contest with 11 strikeouts.

It was a different story in game two as Bridgewater jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the first inning. Senior hurler Renae Hobbs (Mount Union/Mount Union) struggled early with her control, as several runs came in courtesy of walks.

It was the same story in the second inning as Bridgewater put the game away with eight runs in the second inning.

The Eagles were never able to mount a comeback as they could not break through offensively.

Juniata will be back in action a week from Saturday when the Eagles open conference play with a doubleheader at Susquehanna.
