HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Robert Manoff, director of the Center for War, Peace and the News Media, will speak at Juniata College on "Ten Theses on the World Trade Center: Origins and Consequences of the Attack on America" at 8:15 p.m., Oct. 29, at Alumni Hall in the Brumbaugh Science Center on the Juniata campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

Manoff is the former managing editor of Harper's magazine, former editor of the Columbia Journalism Review and is a co-founder of the center he directs. The center, based at New York University and founded in 1985, focuses on such issues as ethnic conflict, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and democratization of the media worldwide.

In addition, the media center has arranged more than 3,500 seminars, conferences and briefings for more than 125,000 media professionals. The center also operates Global Beat (www.nyu.edu/globalbeat), a Web-based resource for journalists covering international issues.

The center also operates Global Beat Syndicate, which markets op-ed columns on international issues to hundreds of newspapers every week. In 1992, the center established the National Press Institute of Russia, where the center helps Russian journalists cover terrorism, nuclear weapons issues and Russian foreign policy and defense issues.

Manoff, research professor of journalism at New York University, earned a bachelor's degree from Haverford College in 1968 and earned a master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1973. He has published articles in the New York Times, International Herald Tribune and Journalism Quarterly.
