Lincoln (Pa.) 101, Juniata 77

LANCASTER, Pa. ? The Juniata College men?s basketball team staged first and second half comebacks against 21st-ranked Lincoln University but was unable to come all the way back as the Eagles suffered a 101-77 set-back in the opening game of the 2006 Lancaster Rotary Tip-Off The New Year Tournament Monday night. Juniata will take on Mitchell College in the consolation game on Tuesday after Mitchell fell to host Franklin & Marshall in the other opening-night game.

Juniata fell behind early in the opening half, and despite cutting into the Lincoln lead with several runs would never hold a lead in the contest. Trailing 15-5 in the opening frame, the Eagles put together a 9-3 run to pull within five points at 18-13 with 13:25 left in the game. Lincoln answered with an 11-3 run late in the half to take a 50-37 lead into the locker room.

The second half closely resembled the first as the Blue and Gold made the contest close with a run early in the period, pulling within seven points just three minutes into the second half. Juniata remained within striking distance until the final five minutes when a 12-0 Lincoln run turned an 11-point cushion into a 23-point lead.

Chris Jasiota (Oil City/Oil City) scored a team-high 16 points for the Eagles, while Travis Boyd (Juniata Valley/Barree) contributed 11 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Lincoln?s Kyle Myrick scored a game-high 24 points and also led all players with 15 assists. Lincoln improved to 12-3 with the victory.
