Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College sophomore basketball player Brian Cannon (Fallston/Fallston, Md.) has been selected to the MASCAC Honor Roll for his efforts this past week. Along with Players of the Week for both the Commonwealth and Freedom Conferences, the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation names three student-athletes to the MASCAC Honor Roll. Cannon is the second member of the men's basketball team to claim honor roll recognition this season.

Cannon continued his strong start to the season by averaging 21.7 points and 5.3 rebounds over three games last week, and helped Juniata to a third-place finish at the National City Holiday Tournament. He opened the week with a career-high 29 points against perennial Division III power Franklin & Marshall. He was 10-of-21 from the field in the game, while also going 8-of-9 from the foul line and grabbing six rebounds. He then posted a pair of 18-point efforts against Albion and Allegheny. He notched six rebounds and added three assists against Albion, while finishing with four rebounds and two assists in the win over Allegheny. Cannon shot 46 percent from the field on the week and was 14-of-15 from the foul line while adding seven assists. His play earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team at the National City Holiday Tournament.

Cannon has enjoyed a breakout start to his sophomore campaign as he leads Juniata in scoring with an average of 19.6 points per game. He's also second on the team with a 4.6 rebounds per game average. After scoring in double figures seven times in his first collegiate season, he's topped 10 points or more in four of Juniata's five games this season, including a pair of 20-point efforts. He established a new career-high with 24 points in the Championship game of Juniata's Mutual Benefit Group "Doc" Greene Invitational, and then bested it with his 29-point effort against Franklin & Marshall. His best single-game effort from his freshman season was 16 points in a game, a total he has already topped four times this year.

With Cannon playing a big part, Juniata has opened the season 3-2, with both losses coming to teams that earned postseason berths last season. Juniata will open its 2005-06 conference schedule on Wednesday when it hosts Susquehanna University.
