Juniata 3, Villa Julie 0

Owings Mills, Md. - Three second-half goals from Juniata's Josh Cady (Malvern Prep./Frazer) lead the Juniata College men's soccer team to a convincing 3-0 victory over Villa Julie College Saturday afternoon. The victory moved Juniata to 5-11-1 on the year, while Villa Julie is now 13-3-1.

After a scoreless first half, in which the home team out-shot Juniata 7-3, the Eagles jumped into the lead in what would be a physical second half. The Eagles earned a penalty kick in the 60th minute, and Cady converted to put Juniata in front 1-0.

Cady struck again in the 77th minute, taking a pass from Jeff Gehring (Exeter Township/Reading) and beating Villa Julie keeper Eric Lowman for his second goal.

With Juniata on top 2-0, the home team looked to cut into the lead as it upped its pressure and the physical nature of the match. The Mustangs fired 15 shots at the Juniata net in the second half, and committed 13 fouls. Juniata keeper Tim Penrod (Moravia/Moravia, N.Y.)played the first 45 minutes, and Mark Guthridge (Dubois/Dubois) kept the home team off the scoreboard over the second half.

With Penrod and the Juniata defenders keeping the home team off the scoreboard, Juniata capped the scoring in the 88th minute. The Eagles drew their second penalty kick of the match, and Cady converted the chance again to record the hat trick.

It marked the third career three-goal game for Cady and brought his season goal total to seven.

There were six cards handed out in the match, including a late red card for Villa Julie, and a red card assessed to the Villa Julie bench before the start of the second half.

Lowman finished with five saves in goal for the home team.

The match was the final home game of the season for Juniata. The Eagles will be back in action with a non-conference match at Villa Julie on Saturday.
