Moravian 3, Juniata 1

Huntingdon, Pa. ? Juniata got off to a quick start against visiting Moravian, but was unable to hang on for the win Saturday afternoon. The Eagles lost a physical match, 3-1, dropping them to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Moravian is now 4-7-1 overall, 2-1 in the Commonwealth Conference.

The Eagles were able to jump out to a quick lead when Fred McNeal (Troy/Towanda) crushed a blast past Moravian?s Ryan Walker from just inside 18 yards. The goal came 20 minutes into the game and was McNeal?s fifth of the season.

Juniata played solidly until allowing two Moravian goals in a three-minute stretch right before halftime. Ryan Hintenach found the back of the net first and then Ruben Concepcion did the same just moments later. Concepcion?s goal gave the guests a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.

After getting few shots on goal in the first half, Juniata was able to put more pressure on Walker in the second half. Mark Turkewitz (Dallastown/York) and Josh Cady (Malvern Prep./Frazer) both forced Walker into making difficult saves. The Eagles got off several other shots, but were unable to cut into Moravian?s lead.

The play got progressively more physical as the match went on. Juniata was given two yellow cards and Moravian was given three. The two teams also combined for 25 fouls in the game.

Ryan Hintenach then gave the visitors a more comfortable lead late in the match when he knocked home a goal in the 76th minute. Ruben Concepcion assisted on the final tally.

Junior keeper Tim Penrod (Moravia/Moravia, N.Y.) kept Juniata close after halftime. He made a series of spectacular saves, finishing with five in the period and seven for the game.

Juniata will look to improve in the win column tomorrow afternoon when non-conference opponent Pitt Bradford travels to Huntingdon. Kickoff is slated for 3:00.
