Mansfield State 5, Juniata 0

Mansfield, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s soccer team entered its game against non-conference Mansfield State looking to maintain the momentum from its first victory this past Sunday. Instead the Eagles ran into another hot opponent as the Eagles fell to Mansfield by a 5-0 score Thursday afternoon. Juniata dropped to 1-4-1 on the year, while the home team raised its record to 4-1-1.

Mansfield took control early on, getting a goal from Colleen Corcoran on a breakaway in the 12th minute. Eight minutes later, Lyndi Keiser added another unassisted tally to push the score to 2-0 Mansfield. The third score of the half came 15 minutes before halftime as a Robyn Travisano knocked in a rebound off a corner kick.

Juniata looked to cut into the lead as Alicia Walsh (Latrobe/Latrobe) had a pair of shots in the first half, but the Eagles were unable to capitalize.

The Eagles kept Mansfield off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first half and 20 minutes through the second stanza. The home team then put the game out of reach with two goals in a five minute span half-way through the second half. Caroline Furmato scored off an assist from Amy Dominick at the 67:21 mark, and then Vanessa Wengen headed home a goal off a direct kick from Kim Pachuta to cap the scoring.

Juniata goalkeeper Lisa Russo (Lakeland/Haskell, N.J.) made eight saves in the contest, while reserve keeper Kerri Lawrence (Paramus Catholic/Waldwick, N.J.) made a pair of stops in the game. Julie Miller had one stop for the home team.

Juniata returns to action with a non-conference match at Lycoming on Sunday.
