Gettysburg 6, Juniata 0

Gettysburg, Pa. ? On a rare Sunday afternoon match, the Juniata College field hockey team suffered an even more rare lopsided loss as the Eagles fell to host Gettysburg 6-0 Sunday afternoon. Juniata drops to 1-1 on the season while Gettysburg improved to 2-0.

Juniata fell in a hole early on as the home team scored three goals in the first half, and the Eagles could only manage one shot. Lauren Eby scored an unassisted goal just five minutes into the game to get Gettysburg started. Amy Schneider followed with a goal assisted by Krissy Browning with 12:02 showing on the clock and then Browning knocked one in herself three minutes later in the first half. The final goal of the half was assisted by Maura Downey and gave the Bullets a commanding 3-0 lead.

Juniata would put together a sharper performance in the second half, but couldn?t break through on the scoreboard. Juniata fired off three shots on goal, and forced Gettysburg goalie Katherine Corkhill to make a pair of saves but were unable to cut into the lead. Meanwhile Juniata goalie Andrea Way (Fair Haven Union/Fair Haven, Vt.) posted four saves in the second frame.

Gettysburg would tally three more scores in the second half despite Juniata?s stronger offensive play. Browning knocked in her second goal of the season just more than 10 minutes into the half. Meg Guddu added to the lead with a goal off an assist from Becky Latta. Guddu added her second goal to cap the scoring with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, assisted by Bridget Seidel.

Juniata returns to action on Saturday with a road contest at Montclair State (N.J.).
