Messiah 7, Juniata 0

Huntingdon, Pa.? In the midst of its finest season in four years, the Juniata College men?s tennis team suffered a tough loss to the conference leading Messiah College Falcons by a 7-0 score in Huntingdon Thursday afternoon. The loss dropped Juniata to 6-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Messiah improved to 8-1 on the season and 5-0 in Commonwealth matches.

The visitors swept the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The Eagles were closest to a win at the second position where Tom Nelson (State College/State College) and Jonathan Cohen (Highland Regional/Hollywood, Fla.) fell by an 8-4 score.

The Eagles were then unable to earn a win in singles. Romain Plessis (Catholic University of Lille/Lyon, France) played the most competitive match at the sixth singles position, as he dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision. Cohen, David Bullock (Central Bucks East/Jamison) and Brian Sykes (Gateway Regional/Woodburry Heights, N.J.) all dropped 6-2, 6-1 decisions. Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon) was defeated 6-2, 6-2 at first singles, while Nelson fell by a 6-0, 6-0 score.

Juniata returns to action on Friday with a conference match at Elizabethtown.
