(Posted December 9, 2004)
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.? The Juniata College swimming team used a balanced team effort to post a 108-96 dual-meet victory over Lycoming College in Williamsport Wednesday night. Juniata upped its record to 7-2 overall and 3-2 against conference foes with the victory. Lycoming is now 4-3 on the season.
The Eagles claimed six individual even victories, along with three runner-up finishes in individual events to claim the win. Juniata also posted a win in the 200 freestyle relay.
Dana Gais (Kiski Area/Saltsburg), Amy Sutherland (Norwich/Norwich, N.Y.), Kathy Trainor (Upper Merion/King of Prussia) and Amy Hanson (Lancaster Catholic/Elizabethown) swam to a victory in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:43.89.
Trainor added a pair of first-place finishes for the Eagles as she touched the wall first in the 100 and 50 freestyle races.
The 200 freestyle was also strong for Juniata as Alison Engle (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) placed first and Sutherland finished second. Engle also earned a victory in the 500 freestyle, while Sutherland picked up a first-place finish in the 200 backstroke.
Juniata?s other top finish came from freshman Jenny Bair (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) who topped the field in the 200 breaststroke.
Kim Dierolf (Boyertown/Boyertown) placed second in the 1,000 freestyle, while Gais was second in the 100 intermediate medley.
The team of Bair, Engle, Carli Zoubek (Paul IV/Burke, Va.) and Kathleen O?Leary (Nashua/Nashua, N.H.) added a second-place finish for Juniata in the 200 medley relay.
With six meets still remaining on the regular-season schedule, Juniata is just two wins shy of matching its win total from all of the 2003-04 season.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they swim in a tri-meet against Indiana University (Pa.) and Penn State-Altoona in Indiana.
