Colgate 70, Juniata 47
Hamilton, N.Y. ? The Juniata College men?s basketball team started out quickly, but was eventually overrun by the home team as Juniata fell to Colgate 70-47 Saturday afternoon. Juniata drops to 1-3 with the loss, while Colgate improved to 2-2

Juniata scored the first five points of the game, with Nick Hager (Franklin/Franklin) and Chris Jasiota (Oil City/Oil City) each converting in the early minutes. Juniata would hold the lead for the first five minutes of the contest, before Colgate began to take control. With the Colgate holding a 10-9 lead at the 15:30 mark, the home team then rolled off a 14-2 run over the next seven minutes to pull out to a 24-11 lead.

Juniata would get no closer than 10 the rest of the half, and went to the locker room trailing 38-24.

The Eagles tried to battle back early in the second frame, but Colgate?s defense held Juniata to nine points in the first 10 minutes of the half, as the lead grew to as much as 30. Juniata?s Brian Cannon (Fallston/Fallston, Md.) scored eight-straight points including a pair of threes to cut the lead to 19 with 5:53 remaining.

The hot shooting would not continue as the Eagles then fell into a four-minute scoring drought that didn?t end until Garrett Bull (Red Lion/Red Lion) hit a three with 14 seconds remaining created the final margin of 70-47.
Cannon finished as Juniata?s leading scorer with 12 points. Four players grabbed four rebounds for Juniata, while Kyle Opitz (Pine Richland/Gibsonia) dished out three assists.

Andrew Zidar led all players with 14 points, with Jon Simon adding 10. Zidar also pulled down a game-best seven rebounds, while Simon and Jon Foss each had three assists.
Juniata opens conference play Wednesday night as the Eagles host Messiah College.
