Moravian 5, Juniata 0

Bethlehem, Pa. ? A four-goal second half was too much for the Juniata College men?s soccer team to overcome as the Eagles fell to Commonwealth Conference foe Moravian by a 5-0 score in Bethlehem Saturday afternoon. The season-ending loss gives Juniata a 5-12-1 record on the year and a 1-6 mark in Commonwealth Conference play. Moravian is 8-8-1 on the year and 2-5 in the conference.

Moravian?s first goal came at the 12:24 mark in the first half. Jonathan Thomas knocked in a goal off an assist from Nick Tarquinio to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

Eagle keeper Mark Guthridge (DuBois/DuBois) made a pair of saves in the remainder of the half as he kept the Eagles within a goal.

The Greyhounds then pulled away early in the second half. Jim Feimster scored an unassisted tally four minutes into the second stanza to make the lead 2-0. Two minutes later Thomas scored his second goal of the match, then added his third for a hat trick at the 63:12 mark. Both goals were unassisted.

The final goal came on a penalty kick as Ryan Wilkins converted from the penalty spot at the 66:58 mark to post the deciding 5-0 margin.

Guthridge finished with two saves in the match as he faced 15 Moravian shots. Greyhound keeper Kyle Keller made one save in earning the shutout.

The match marked the final game in the careers of Juniata seniors Mike Alianiello (Altoona/Altoona), Chris Kearney (George C. Marshall/Annondale, Va.), Rick McLellan (Moon/Lake Forest, Ca.) and Will Spigler (Waynesboro/Waynesboro).

Juniata?s five wins is the third time in five years the Eagles have won at least five matches.
