Villa Julie 1, Juniata 0

Huntingdon, Pa. ? Juniata dropped a hard-fought decision, 1-0, to non-conference opponent Villa Julie Saturday afternoon at Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon. The loss drops Juniata to 2-6-1 on the season, while Villa Julie improves to 5-4.

The visitors got their lone tally at the 54:38 mark in the second half. Evan Williams set up teammate Eric Breach in front of the net. Breach snuck the ball by Juniata keeper Mark Guthridge (DuBois/DuBois) to give Villa Julie a 1-0 lead it would not relinquish.

Guthridge played well in the net, allowing just the lone score. He finished with four saves on the day, one of them a spectacular, diving save to prevent a goal.

Despite some excellent scoring opportunities, Juniata couldn?t find the back of the net. The Eagles missed a chance to tie the game with a direct kick towards the end of the game. Juniata attempted to set up a shot to the left of the wall, but the Villa Julie defense snuffed out the play.

Juniata would get one more shot to tie the game on a pair of corner kicks with under a minute to play. Both times Juniata failed to capitalize with a shot on goal.

Juniata will not play until next Saturday, when they host Lincoln. The next conference date is October 6, when Susquehanna will travel to Huntingdon.
