Altoona, Pa. ? The Juniata College cross country teams notched some of their strongest finishes to-date at the Penn State-Altoona Invitational run at Fort Roberdeau on Saturday morning. The Eagle women placed first in the six-team field outlasting the field with a score of 37. The Eagle men were nearly as strong as they placed second in the field, just two points behind the top team from Bucknell. The Eagle men finished with 39 points for the meet, while both Eagle teams had the top individual finisher in the contest.

Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) was the overall winner on the women?s side for the Eagles as she helped the team to its first-place finish. Glunt outlasted several runners, including a few teammates, as she covered the 5K course in a time of 20:34. Right behind Glunt was teammate Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) who placed third overall in a time of 20:59. Sarah Bay (Central Dauphin/Harrisburg) ran a strong race to finish third for Juniata and seventh overall in the meet. Lauren Gates (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) was next across the line for Juniata as she placed 10th. Finally, Christina Jones (Fallston/Bel Air, Md.) ran one of her top races of her career as she completed the Eagle scoring with a 16th-place finish.

Juniata also had the individual winner on the men?s side as Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) covered the 7,500-meter course in a time of 26:17 to hold on for the win. Freshman Shawn Rummery (Thornton Academy/Dayton, Me.) continues his improvement during his first season as he placed second among Eagle runners and fifth overall. Justin Fritzius (Central York/York) was next across the line for Juniata with an 8th-place finish. Right on his heels was Mike Vella (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) who placed 10th in the meet. Finally coming out of the pack to earn the fifth-spot for Juniata was freshman Ryan Conrad (Wayenesboro/Waynesboro) who rode a strong last mile to a time of 27:53 and a 15th-place overall finish.

Juniata will run again next Saturday as the team will get its first look at most of the MAC schools at the LaSalle University Invitational.
